A group of 30 missionaries from the Catholic organization Promesa MRC, based in New York, returned to the United States this Wednesday after completing their annual mission in Cuba, where they provided material assistance and spiritual support to communities affected by the crisis.
According to Telemundo, the volunteers traveled to the island with donations meant for children and adults, in addition to organizing recreational activities and pastoral support in Havana.
"Despite the difficulties they are currently facing, they still have a smile on their faces, very grateful," expressed Maritza Reyes, a member of the organization.
Help and support
Among the missionaries was Josefina Herrera, who recounted that she traveled with an extra suitcase filled with items to distribute to underprivileged children and families.
"We distributed gifts that we received on a list with the names and ages of the children," she explained.
During their stay, the group participated in games and gatherings with children, sharing experiences that, as they stated, aim to bring joy amid a context of scarcity.
More than 100 people welcomed them to the island. The Sisters Servants of Mary in Cuba were in charge of distributing the remaining aid to ensure it reaches those who need it most.
Faith and continuity
The missionary Miguel Rosario pointed out that they left "established missions" to continue providing support through the religious sisters.
"We saw many needs, and they are responsible for helping in that area," she stated.
The members of Promesa MRC stated that the Cuban people remain "alive through faith, hope, and love," and announced that they plan to visit Camagüey soon as part of their missionary work on the island.
The organization carries out missions in various countries, although Cuba holds a priority position within its aid program.
