Authorities in the San Luis municipality, in the province of Santiago de Cuba, seized more than 90 pounds of beef following a house search carried out in the locality of Emma Rosa Chuig, as reported by the official page Héroes del Moncada, linked to the Ministry of the Interior (MININT).
According to the post on Facebook, the meat is believed to have been obtained through the illegal slaughter of livestock, a practice categorized as a crime under Cuban law.
The operation took place in a home in the neighborhood and is part of the control measures against the theft and illegal slaughter of cattle, a recurring issue in several provinces of the country amid food shortages and high prices in the informal market.
Context of scarcity and control
The illegal slaughter of livestock in Cuba is considered a serious crime, as the State maintains control over the production and marketing of beef. The sale and consumption of this product is strictly regulated.
In recent years, authorities have intensified operations against this practice, while the population faces difficulties accessing animal protein in the formal market.
So far, no details have been disclosed regarding possible detainees or sanctions related to the case.
