Alfredo González, father of Annier, the young man who took his own life in July 2021 while serving in the military, publicly denounced alleged lies and contradictions in the actions of the Military General Prosecutor's Office regarding his son's case.
In a video posted on his Facebook profile, González stated that he recently received an official response in which, for the first time, it is acknowledged that there were abuses against his son during the period leading up to his death.
According to the explanation, the document states that several officials were "severely sanctioned."
However, the father challenged that account and stated that, months after the investigation concluded, one of the involved officers was promoted to captain, and another was reassigned to roles as an instructor.
“They were severely punished,” he scoffed, contrasting what the document states with what, according to him, actually happened.
González also noted that on previous occasions he was never officially informed about the existence of abuses and stated that he even protested several times to the Prosecutor's Office regarding the lack of sanctions.
According to the account, the file itself would contain evidence of irregularities in the disciplinary process against the officers.
In his message, the father harshly criticized the functioning of military justice and stated that he will explain in more detail what he considers to be inconsistencies in the investigation.
"I want the people to know how justice works," he expressed.
The case of Annier has been one of those that has generated persistent calls for transparency and accountability within the mandatory military service in Cuba, a system that has been repeatedly challenged by families of young individuals who died while in military custody.
