Cuban opposition leader José Daniel Ferrer reacted to recent statements made by U.S. President Donald Trump, who claimed that a "friendly takeover" of Cuba could occur, and urged the U.S. administration to take a firm stance against the Havana regime.

In a video shared on Facebook, Ferrer deemed it important that the White House addresses the serious situation facing the Island and emphasized the need for Washington to have "precise and concrete plans" to tackle what he described as a very serious problem affecting millions of Cubans.

According to the opposition figure, the crisis in Cuba affects a population that lives without freedoms, in extreme poverty, and under constant repression.

He particularly highlighted the situation of political prisoners and the prison population, describing them as subjected to inhumane conditions, suffering from malnutrition, illnesses, and abuse.

Ferrer stated that the Cuban regime poses a danger to freedom, democracy, and the market economy on the continent, as well as a risk to the national security of the United States.

In that context, he asserted that the current administration in Washington is "a friend and ally of the Cuban people" and expressed confidence that it would not allow mass repression against the citizens in a scenario of change.

The opposition member also stated that he constantly receives messages from the Island asking how much longer the suffering will continue.

In response, he stated that the end of the system will depend on the collective action of Cubans both inside and outside the country, with determination and courage.

During his speech, he urged U.S. authorities not to be deceived by the Cuban government, which he accused of buying time through promises and delaying tactics.

In his opinion, the regime only understands a language of firmness and sustained pressure.

Ferrer urged the combination of Cuban mobilization with a strong stance from the United States so that the democratization of Cuba becomes a reality.

His statements come in the midst of a regional context marked by recent political changes and a hardening of rhetoric towards governments deemed authoritarian.

Recently, Ferrer asserted that the President of the United States, Donald Trump, could go down in history as “the Liberator of the 21st Century” if he completes what he considers a “pending task” against the regimes that he labels as genocidal and fundamentalist.
