The Cuban leader Miguel Díaz-Canel signed the condolence book opened at the embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Havana following the death of Ayatollah Seyed Alí Jameneí, during the recent attacks by Israel and the United States in the Persian country.
According to the official account of the Presidency of Cuba on the social media platform X, Díaz-Canel visited the diplomatic headquarters to pay tribute to the Iranian leader and express the condolences of the Cuban regime.
Alongside the president, the book was also signed by Chancellor Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla and the Director General of Bilateral Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MINREX), Carlos Miguel Pereira Hernández.
Iran and Cuba have maintained close political and diplomatic relations for decades; however, amid increasing pressures on Havana, the Cuban leader lamented the “murder” of Jamenei in what he described as a “despicable act,” but he was careful not to mention the U.S.
So far, Cuban authorities have not provided further details about the content of the message left by Díaz-Canel in the condolences book.
