The President of the United States, Donald Trump, and the Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, will lead the regional summit "Escudo de las Américas" (Shield of the Americas) on March 7, which will be held in the city of Doral, Florida.
According to a press release issued by the State Department on March 6, the meeting will bring together U.S. allies in the Western Hemisphere with the aim of strengthening regional cooperation in security, freedom, and prosperity.
“United States will welcome our strongest and closest allies from the hemisphere to promote freedom, security, and prosperity in our region,” stated an official statement from the State Department.
The U.S. administration indicated that this coalition of countries will work on joint strategies to address various regional challenges, including foreign interference on the continent, the expansion of gangs and criminal cartels, narcoterrorism, and massive illegal immigration.
The State Department described the initiative as an alliance aimed at strengthening cooperation among governments that share common interests in the hemisphere.
Some of the events from the meeting will be streamed live via the digital platforms of the White House, the official website of the Department of State, and its YouTube channel.
U.S. authorities also reported that the deadline for accreditation for interested press to cover the summit has already passed.
The meeting in Doral takes place against a backdrop of increasing regional coordination driven by Washington to address transnational threats and strengthen political and security cooperation among allied countries on the continent.
