Who will attend the "Shield of the Americas" summit convened by Trump in Miami?

The president of the United States, Donald Trump, will bring together several leaders and political figures from Latin America this Saturday in Miami for the summit called Escudo de las Américas (Shield of the Americas), a meeting focused on regional security, immigration, and hemispheric cooperation.

The meeting will take place at the Trump National Doral in Miami and will feature the participation of heads of state and political leaders from various countries across the continent.

Among the invited leaders are Nayib Bukele, president of El Salvador; Luis Abinader, president of the Dominican Republic; Javier Milei, president of Argentina; Santiago Peña, president of Paraguay; Daniel Noboa, president of Ecuador; and José Raúl Mulino, president of Panama, the White House reported.

Rodrigo Paz, President of Bolivia, Tito Asfura, President of Honduras, Rodrigo Chaves, President of Costa Rica, and Mohamed Irfaan, from Guyana, as well as the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Kamla Persad-Bissessar; according to reports spread on social media and regional media.

In addition, the presence of the president-elect of Chile, José Antonio Kast is expected, who will travel to the United States to participate in the meeting before officially assuming office on March 11.

According to the White House, the goal of the summit is to strengthen cooperation among allied countries in the hemisphere on issues such as regional security, the fight against drug trafficking and organized crime, as well as addressing the phenomenon of irregular migration.

Leaders are also expected to discuss joint strategies in response to transnational threats, including gangs, criminal cartels, and other criminal networks operating in the region.

The meeting takes place amid a process of political reconfiguration in Latin America and aims to consolidate an alliance between Washington and governments deemed sympathetic on the continent.

According to news reports, some regional leaders were not invited to the meeting, including the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum; Colombia, Gustavo Petro; and Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

The Secretary of State Marco Rubio will accompany Trump at the event, which will take place in the city of Doral in Miami, south of Florida.
