The President of the United States, Donald Trump, will gather this Saturday in Miami with heads of state and leaders from 10 Latin American countries at a summit called “Shield of the Americas”, the White House announced.

The meeting will feature the participation of the leaders of Argentina, Bolivia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Honduras, Panama, Paraguay, and Trinidad and Tobago, as well as the elected president of Chile, José Antonio Kast, who will take office on March 11, the agency EFE reported.

According to White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt, the meeting aims to strengthen regional cooperation on security, migration, and the fight against organized crime, as well as to promote a shared agenda for the stability and prosperity of the continent.

Among the main topics for discussion are irregular migration to the United States, the fight against drug trafficking, criminal gangs, and other threats to regional security, as well as hemispheric coordination in addressing geopolitical challenges.

The summit will be held at the Trump National Doral Miami, owned by the president, and is part of a strategy by Washington to strengthen its leadership on the continent and consolidate an alliance with like-minded Latin American governments.

The meeting takes place at a time of political reconfiguration in Latin America, characterized by new regional alliances and by the United States' attempt to strengthen its influence in the Western Hemisphere.
