The death of a young Cuban in Russia has sparked a wave of sadness and calls for solidarity on social media, where family, friends, and acquaintances are seeking assistance to repatriate his body to the Island.
The deceased was identified as Omar Dariel Pérez Torres, a Cuban who was in Russia when the death occurred, according to posts shared on Facebook by close acquaintances.
"May God bless you, you left young and full of life... you deserve to be at peace," wrote Yainelis Pérez Pérez, who mourned the young man's loss in a message filled with sorrow.
In another group of Cubans in Russia, a user identified as Ashly Marichal requested financial support to help her family during this difficult time. “Please help with whatever you can, we will be grateful,” she expressed.
Although the messages do not specify the causes of death, several comments confirm that the young man passed away in Russia, complicating the process of transporting his body to Cuba.
Dozens of people have reacted to the news with messages of disbelief and sadness. Friends and acquaintances remember him as a cheerful and beloved person in his community.
"He was my colleague at the cookie factory in Santiago de Cuba," commented one user. "An excellent son and a very beloved person," wrote another friend. "Such a good boy, so eager to help his family," added another person.
Some comments also suggest that Omar was originally from Santiago de Cuba and that many neighbors and friends are still struggling to process the news.
“San Agustín in mourning,” wrote an internet user, referring to the impact his death has had on those who knew him.
The publication has also raised questions about what happened, as official details regarding the circumstances of the death have not been released.
Meanwhile, family and friends continue to spread awareness of the case on social media in hopes of garnering support to repatriate the young man's body to Cuba, so he can be laid to rest alongside his loved ones.
The situation once again highlights the challenges many Cubans abroad face when a tragedy occurs far from home, especially in countries where transportation costs and consular procedures can be quite high.
