A group of Cubans living in Chile erased a mural with the phrase "Fidel is Revolution" that had been painted in a park in downtown Santiago, in an act that was recorded on video and quickly began to circulate on social media.

The images show several people painting over the sign located in front of the Vega Tirso de Molina, a very busy area of the Chilean capital. The mural had recently been created by supporters of the Chilean left as a show of solidarity with the Cuban regime.

The video was shared on the social network X by the user Ángel Rivas, who stated that the intervention lasted only a short time before being removed.

"The gigantic mural that the communists in Chile created in support of the Cuban dictatorship in the center of Santiago de Chile, across from the Vega Tirso de Molina, lasted very little. A group of free Cubans in Chile removed it," he wrote.

The images show how Cubans cover the phrase with white paint while expressing slogans in favor of the island's freedom. The act was accompanied by the chant "Cuba wants freedom!", a slogan that has become common among members of the Cuban diaspora in various parts of the world.

The episode reflects the tensions generated by Fidel Castro's figure and the Cuban political system among exiles and supporters of the Havana government, especially in countries with large migrant communities such as Chile.

For many Cubans who have left the island, tributes to the historical leader of the Revolution represent a glorification of a system they deem responsible for decades of repression, economic crisis, and lack of freedoms.
