The Cuban influencer Samantha Hernández responded to the criticism she faced on social media following a video in which she explained why she avoids discussing politics or publicly commenting on the situation in Cuba.

After the controversy sparked by her statements, the content creator used her Instagram stories to clarify her stance and assure that she is aware of the reality facing the island.

"It's obvious that I know there is a dictatorship in Cuba, it's obvious that I know people are starving in Cuba, that there are blackouts, that there is no electricity or water, and that there are no medicines; that if you speak out, you get imprisoned. We emigrate because of all this, as we have no future on the island," he expressed.

The influencer also stated that many times her words can be taken out of context on social media to create controversy or to make fragments of her statements go viral.

"I also know that many people are fans who record their screens and cut a little piece to spark conversation and go viral," he commented.

Hernández stated that precisely because of that exposure, he prefers to avoid speaking publicly about the political situation in his country.

"That's why we live in the United States and other free countries, because there is democracy and everyone has their opinion, which must be respected, whether it's wrong or not,” he concluded.
