Cuban-American congress members demanded on Thursday the immediate release of all political prisoners in Cuba and called for an end to the regime's repression against opposition members on the island, following the regime's announcement of the release of 51 individuals.

Republican Congressman Carlos A. Giménez expressed his stance through the social media platform X, where he denounced that numerous Cubans remain incarcerated for political reasons.

"From the United States Congress, we demand the immediate release of all political prisoners unjustly imprisoned in the dungeons of the dictatorship in Cuba," the legislator wrote.

Giménez accompanied his message with slogans used by the Cuban opposition movement, such as "Down with the dictatorship" and "Homeland and Life."

For her part, Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar also called for the release of political prisoners and issued strong criticisms of the Cuban government.

"The Cuban dictatorship must release all political prisoners and get out of the island now. No excuses. Everyone!" the legislator wrote on social media.

The statements come after the Cuban regime announced the release of 51 individuals sentenced to imprisonment, described as "a gesture" within the framework of relations between the Cuban state and the Vatican.

Human rights organizations have repeatedly reported that numerous opponents, activists, and demonstrators remain imprisoned in Cuba, especially following the anti-government protests in recent years.
