The Cuban-American congresswoman María Elvira Salazar reacted sharply to the announcement from the Cuban regime to free 51 prisoners in the coming days and demanded the immediate release of all political prisoners on the island.

Salazar posted his reaction on the social media platform X just a few minutes after the decision announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba became known.

"Either they release all political prisoners and leave Cuba once and for all, or they will end up one by one in a 3x2 cell like their buddy Nicolás Maduro. Their time is up. It's time to decide," wrote the legislator.

In another message shared on the same platform, the Republican representative insisted that the regime must release all imprisoned opponents and step down from power.

"What the Cuban dictatorship needs to do is free all political prisoners and leave the island now. No excuses. ALL of them!" he stated.

Salazar's statements come after Cuba's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the release of 51 individuals sentenced to imprisonment. According to the official statement, those benefiting have served a significant portion of their sentences and have maintained good behavior during their time in prison.

The regime linked the decision to the discussions held with the Vatican regarding the review and release of inmates, and also noted that the measure coincides with the approach of the religious celebrations of Holy Week.

However, the announcement did not include the names of the potential beneficiaries nor clarified whether there are political prisoners among them, a category whose existence the Cuban government systematically denies.

The MINREX statement also reminded that since 2010, the government has granted pardons to thousands of prisoners, and in recent years, other individuals have received prison benefits, presenting these measures as part of what it described as a common practice of the Cuban criminal justice system.
