The Electric Company of Santiago de Cuba has warned about a serious health hazard following reports of theft of dielectric oil at several substations in the province, a specialized product that may even be being used for human consumption.

According to a post shared by CMKW Radio Mambí on their Facebook profile, authorities have indicated that criminal activities related to the theft of this type of oil have been detected at facilities within the electrical system.

Dielectric oil is a highly specialized and expensive product used in electrical equipment, and its use for human consumption poses a serious risk to people's health and life.

In addition to the health risk, its theft directly affects the stability of the electrical system, as the replacement of this material cannot be done immediately, further complicating the already tense energy situation.

Authorities indicated that those responsible typically operate in groups at night and in remote areas where the substations are located.

To commit the thefts, they use wheelbarrows pulled by animals, jugs, and ladders.

The Electric Company also warned that these actions endanger those involved, as there have been recorded fatalities from electrocution during theft attempts at electrical installations.

Authorities reminded that the current Penal Code classifies these acts as serious crimes, which can be punished by law.

The entity reiterated its call to the public to report any suspicious activity related to electrical installations, with the aim of protecting the system and preventing risks to citizens.
