The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, announced that she will make a personal financial donation to Cuba, following the call from former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to raise funds to supposedly support the Cuban people, although it still has not sent oil to the island

According to a report from the agency EFE, the president made the announcement during her daily press conference, where she defended Mexico's assistance to the island as an act of historical solidarity.

Sheinbaum assured that her eventual contribution will be personal and that she will soon announce the amount.

"As a person, I will see if we can make a contribution; I will keep you informed. I will do it personally," he declared.

In her statements, the president emphasized Mexico's position of support for Cuba and highlighted that her country has been consistent in its backing.

"Mexico has always been supportive of the Cuban people, a brotherly nation," said the leader, who has repeatedly expressed support for the regime.

The announcement comes after López Obrador reappeared on social media to solicit economic support for Cuba through deposits into an account of a civil association, which, according to Sheinbaum, will be audited.

During the previous Mexican government, cooperation agreements were maintained with Havana, including the shipment of oil and the hiring of Cuban doctors.

For his part, the Cuban leader Miguel Díaz-Canel recently expressed gratitude for Mexico's support amid the economic crisis facing the island.

Sheinbaum also stated that the allegations of human rights violations in Cuba should be resolved by the Cubans themselves and reiterated that her government will continue to promote humanitarian aid and diplomatic dialogue.

Previously, Sheinbaum supported on Monday the request for funds for the Cuban regime made by her predecessor, Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

"Yesterday, President López Obrador, who is now retired and writing books, wrote something on his social media and said: 'I feel very hurt by what is happening to the people of Cuba,' because the people of Cuba have been under a blockade by the United States and other countries for many years, and they are not allowed to receive products," said the leader of Morena at an event in the state of Nayarit.
