The Iranian government confirmed on Tuesday the death of Ali Larijani, secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, following an Israeli bombing that took place the night before in Tehran.

According to a report by the agency EFE, the death was initially announced on Lariyani's official account on platform X, where he was described as a "martyr," and later confirmed by the Iranian government’s information office.

In the attack, his son, one of his aides, and several members of his security team also died, according to information from the Council itself cited by the Mizan agency.

Lariyani was considered one of the most influential figures within the Iranian regime and one of the closest men to the Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.

With a long political career, he was president of the Parliament for more than ten years and also held significant positions in the Revolutionary Guard.

His last public appearance occurred days before his death, during a march in Tehran in rejection of external threats and in support of the regime.

The assassination was claimed by Israel's Minister of Defense, Israel Katz, who stated that Lariyani was "eliminated" in the attack, against the backdrop of rising tensions between the two countries.
