The Cuban regime announced the reassignment of workers who are temporarily unemployed to activities such as garbage collection and food production, amid the energy crisis affecting the country.

According to the Minister of Labor and Social Security, Jesús Otamendiz Campos, in the official program Mesa Redonda, the Government's priority is to avoid job interruptions and keep employees engaged in some productive or service activity.

In that regard, the authorities are focusing on relocating workers who are unable to perform their usual functions due to a lack of fuel to sectors considered strategic, such as agricultural production and community services, including sanitation and solid waste collection.

The official insisted that relocation must take precedence over the job interruption scheme, which involves a reduction in income, dropping from the full salary to 60% after the first month. In this way, the regime also "solves" the problem of waste, which accumulates in all cities.

The measure is part of a series of adjustments implemented due to the deterioration of the energy system, characterized by fuel shortages, prolonged blackouts, and transportation limitations.

In addition to garbage collection and food production, the government plans to employ these workers in social support tasks, education, and care for vulnerable individuals, in an effort to maintain basic services amid the crisis.

The current situation reflects the direct impact of the energy situation on state employment, forcing a reorganization of the workforce towards essential activities while economic difficulties persist on the island.
