The interim president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, appointed Tarek William Saab as the head of the "Great Mission Live Venezuela, My Beloved Homeland", a new responsibility assigned directly to the presidential office.
The announcement was made by Rodríguez herself on social media, where she stated that Saab will have the responsibility of promoting programs related to cultural identity, traditions, and Venezuelan popular culture.
The appointment comes weeks after Saab left his position as attorney general, a role he held for nearly a decade and from which he played a central role in the government's repressive apparatus, as one of the most visible figures of Chavismo.
After his departure, he was immediately appointed as the acting ombudsman, amidst a reconfiguration of power following the political crisis the country has been experiencing since January 3rd.
During his tenure as prosecutor, Saab was criticized by human rights organizations, which pointed to his role in proceedings against opponents and in the repression of protests.
Now, with this new position, he returns to a role within the state apparatus, although in a different area focused on social and cultural programs.
Rodríguez explained that the mission aims to "strengthen cultural identity and national pride" in a context where the government is trying to maintain internal cohesion during the political transition process.
The movement has been interpreted as part of the reconfiguration of key figures within Chavismo, who continue to hold positions within the State despite recent changes in the power structure.
