Cuban-American Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar stated that the political and judicial future of Delcy Rodríguez will depend on her alignment with the directives promoted by President Donald Trump's administration.

In public statements, Salazar asserted that if the Venezuelan leader does not follow the directives imposed from Washington, her fate would be to end up in prison, alluding to the judicial and political pressure exerted by the United States on the Chavista leadership.

The legislator described Trump's strategy as a "new blueprint" in which, she said, the "bad are paving the way for the good."

In that context, he described Rodríguez as part of "Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves" and ironically identified her as "the 37th thief."

Salazar argued that the U.S. administration would be using legal tools as a means of political influence to guide a transition in Venezuela that leads to free and transparent elections.

"In the end, there must be free and transparent elections in Venezuela, so that the Venezuelans themselves can decide who they want to govern them," he stated.

The congresswoman also mentioned the opposition leader María Corina Machado, stating that she has announced her intention to return to the country, and argued that the Venezuelan case is different from the Cuban one due to the existence of a prior democratic structure.

Regarding Cuba, Salazar assured that the situation is more complex due to the economic deterioration and the lack of an institutional framework that would enable a similar transition.

He added that the Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, plays a key role in the strategy toward the island and highlighted his Cuban roots.

The statements come in the context of increasing pressure from Washington on figures of chavismo, while the Trump administration maintains an active policy to influence the Venezuelan political process and the future of the region.
