President Donald Trump rejected any attempts to cut funding for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), calling a proposal that includes a reduction of $5 billion "unacceptable."

In a message shared on Truth Social, the president made it clear that he will not support legislative agreements with the Democrats unless funding for that federal agency is ensured.

Trump stated that any negotiation in the Senate must also include the approval of a broader package of measures, including reforms to the electoral system and stricter immigration policies.

The president emphasized that no partial agreements should be made and urged Republican lawmakers to stand firm against Democratic proposals, particularly regarding ICE.

He also pushed for the initiatives to be voted on jointly and warned that those Republicans who do not support this position could face political consequences.

Trump warned that he could order the deployment of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents at airports if the Senate fails to approve an agreement to fund the Department of Homeland Security, amid a partial shutdown that is already affecting the airport system.

According to the AP agency, the warning comes after several days of unproductive negotiations in Congress, where the disagreement between Republicans and Democrats has stalled progress on a funding bill, leaving thousands of federal workers without pay.
