The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) reported on Wednesday the arrest in New Orleans of a Cuban citizen identified as Ramón Enrique Oliva Lao, who was in the country illegally.
According to the federal agency, the detainee has an extensive criminal history that includes multiple charges, including theft (larceny), evading arrest (on two occasions), endangering minors (two charges), reckless conduct, and property theft.
He also has a history of credit card fraud, identity theft, and computer fraud.
ICE indicated that the arrest was made by agents from its office in New Orleans, although it did not provide additional details about the circumstances of the arrest or the legal process the Cuban citizen will face.
The case falls within the framework of immigration control and public safety operations carried out by U.S. authorities, aimed at apprehending foreigners with criminal records, in response to the anti-immigrant measures of the Donald Trump administration.
