An attempted drug trafficking operation was detected at Havana's International Airport, where authorities identified an illicit substance hidden in the double bottom of a passenger's suitcase.
According to a report on the social media platform X by Wiliam Pérez González, the first deputy chief of the General Customs of the Republic, the operation was thwarted thanks to the joint efforts of Cuban Customs and drug enforcement forces.
The official specified that this case represents the sixth drug trafficking operation detected so far this year, highlighting the ongoing attempts to smuggle illegal substances in and out of the airport.
The detection occurred during routine baggage checks, where the false bottom used to conceal the substance was identified, a common practice in this type of crime.
The authorities did not provide details regarding the passenger's identity or the destination of the drug, as investigations related to the case continue.
