Cuba's Customs detected a drug trafficking operation this Saturday on a flight from Panama that arrived at Havana airport.
In the luggage, nearly 1 kilogram of cocaine was found hidden and mixed within cream jars, along with other products such as coffee and food, as reported on social media by Wiliam Pérez González, Deputy Chief of Customs.
The official did not disclose the identity of those involved or the final destination of the cargo, and the available report does not specify whether there were any formal arrests, although in similar cases, Customs has indicated that the incidents are under investigation.
The images shared by the official show containers of Nivea cream and Herbal Essences shampoo.
The operation was attributed to the joint action of Customs and the anti-drug agency.
This is not the only incident of this kind. The Customs of Cuba systematically reports findings of narcotics in the luggage of Cubans.
A previous report by Wiliam Pérez González indicated the detection of 2 kilograms of cocaine hidden inside a speaker being carried by a passenger at Havana airport.
In that case, the "coordinated and effective" work between Customs and the anti-drug agency was also highlighted, although no identities or final destination of the shipment were specified, and it was noted that the matter remained under investigation.
Furthermore, in recent months, attempts have emerged to introduce drugs using “increasingly sophisticated methods,” including concealment in hygiene products (such as a tube of body cream) and in items like religious dolls, cans of tuna, and gummy candies, as well as references to inspections related to suspicious currency movements and detections of prohibited quantities of tobacco investigated as possible “covers” for smuggling.
