A tanker loaded with Russian diesel that was initially destined for Cuba arrived in Venezuelan waters after changing its route in the Caribbean, according to maritime tracking data.
According to AFP, the ship Sea Horse, flying the flag of Hong Kong, is transporting about 190,000 barrels of Russian diesel that were destined for the island last month, but in recent days it has changed its course and is now sailing off the Venezuelan coast.
According to data from the analysis company Kpler, the vessel suddenly changed course last week, moving south through the eastern Caribbean and then turning west, towards Venezuela.
The same source indicates that the tanker is expected to arrive at the port of Puerto Cabello on Wednesday, March 25, thus solidifying the change of destination for the shipment.
Information from the platform MarineTraffic confirms that the Sea Horse is a tanker ship for transporting oil and chemical products, measuring 160 meters in length and 25.03 meters in width, sailing under the flag of Hong Kong.
Tracking data also indicates that the vessel is currently in the northern region of South America, en route to Puerto Cabello, Venezuela, and moving at an approximate speed of 7.1 knots.
The AIS system also indicates that the vessel is in a state of "loss of command" and has a registered destination of that Venezuelan port, towards which it is heading after having changed its route several times.
The Sea Horse had been loaded with diesel fuel through a transfer operation from another vessel off the coast of Cyprus in early February, at which point it declared Havana as its destination.
However, later the ship changed its itinerary several times, even indicating destinations such as Gibraltar or the Caribbean Sea, before finally heading towards Venezuela.
