The Municipal Prosecutor's Office of Morón ordered provisional detention for the Cuban teenager Jonathan David Muir Burgos, age 16, who was arrested following a protest in that town in the province of Ciego de Ávila.
According to a report by Martí Noticias, the minor was transferred this Wednesday to the provincial jail in Ciego de Ávila, known as Canaleta, although he was later temporarily returned due to electrical failures that prevented his formal entry into the prison.
Authorities have indicated that he will be transferred again, which has raised concerns for his safety, given the history of poor conditions in that penitentiary, where a riot recently occurred.
The young man was arrested on March 16, in the context of a repressive operation following a protest that took place days earlier in Morón, where demonstrators entered a Communist Party headquarters.
Human rights organizations report that the adolescent has been subjected to intimidating interrogations and psychological pressure, without adequate procedural guarantees during their detention.
According to cited sources, the minor remains in precarious conditions, sleeping on the floor, with little food and without proper medical care, despite suffering from a dermatological condition.
The Defense Complaints Center CD requested precautionary measures from the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, considering that the case is part of a repressive pattern and that the risk to the young man is immediate.
Furthermore, a habeas corpus appeal filed by his defense was rejected by the authorities, which, according to the complainants, highlights the lack of effective mechanisms to protect their rights.
Muir is facing an accusation for the crime of sabotage following their participation in the protests on March 13 in Morón, Ciego de Ávila.
