The Ministry of Domestic Trade (MINCIN) denied this Wednesday that there are changes to the ration booklet in response to information circulating on social media.
In a post on , the agency stated that the news about changes in this system is “false” and urged the public to obtain information only through its official channels.
The denial occurs amid the uncertainty generated by previous government announcements regarding potential changes in the distribution of the regulated family basket.
The origin of the information dates back to a report from the official media outlet Tribuna de La Habana, which in February revealed that the government was considering a change in the family basket based on the principle of "subsidizing people rather than products," which would involve selling items at higher prices and directing aid to specific sectors.
In February, authorities announced that a new model is being considered where subsidies would no longer be applied to products but would be directed directly to individuals, which would imply a significant change to the system that has been in place for decades.
That proposal, which includes a differentiated basket with higher prices and targeted assistance, has raised concerns among the population about the future of the supply booklet and access to basic products.
Although the MINCIN denied any immediate changes, the current economic context and the previously announced measures keep the expectation alive regarding possible adjustments in the distribution system in Cuba.
