The president Donald Trump published an apocalyptic message about Iran this Tuesday on Truth Social in which he warned that "an entire civilization will die tonight, never to exist again".
The alarming warning comes hours before the deadline of his fourth ultimatum that Trump issues to Iran since March 21, 2026.
The message, published at 8:06 AM Eastern Time, comes with the clock ticking: Iran has until 8:00 PM ET this Tuesday to reopen the Strait of Hormuz or face devastating attacks on its civil and energy infrastructure.
"I don't want that to happen, but it probably will," Trump wrote, before opening the door to hope: "Now that we have a Complete and Total Regime Change, where different, smarter, and less radicalized minds prevail, perhaps something wonderfully revolutionary can happen. Who knows?"
The leader concluded his post with a direct reference to the theocratic regime: "47 years of extortion, corruption, and death will finally come to an end. God bless the great people of Iran", alluding to the Islamic Republic established in 1979 following the Islamic Revolution.
All the ultimatums are linked to the demand to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, which was closed by Iran on March 4 with mines, drones, and missiles, affecting approximately 2,000 ships and 20,000 sailors.
The military context is devastating for Iran. Operation Epic Fury, a joint offensive by the U.S. and Israel launched on February 28, 2026, has destroyed more than 5,000 Iranian targets, degraded 90% of its missile capability and 95% of its drones, and left its navy and air force in ruins, according to the Pentagon.
The supreme leader Ali Khamenei was eliminated in that operation, and his death was officially confirmed on March 1 of 2026.
It is unknown whether the "regime change" that Trump refers to in his post pertains to the appointment of Mojtaba Jamenei, son of Ali, as the new supreme leader, although his whereabouts and health status remain uncertain.
In parallel with the war rhetoric, diplomatic negotiations are taking place. Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are exchanging messages directly with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi regarding a possible 45-day ceasefire in two phases, with mediation from Pakistan, Egypt, and Turkey.
However, on Monday, Iran rejected Washington's 15-point peace plan, labeling it as "extremely ambitious and illogical," and presented a 10-point counterproposal that includes the cessation of targeted killings, compensation for damages, and the recognition of its authority over the Strait of Hormuz.
The spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Ismail Bagaei, was emphatic on Monday: "Negotiation is incompatible with ultimatums or threats".
Trump, for his part, stated on Monday to the Israeli network Channel 12 that he is in "deep negotiations" and is hopeful for an agreement, although he also warned that "all of Iran could be wiped out in a single night" if no understanding is reached.
The world awaits the outcome of what Trump referred to as "one of the most important moments in the long and complex history of the world".
