President Donald Trump expressed his deep disappointment with NATO on Monday and revealed that, at the beginning of the war against Iran, the United Kingdom responded that it preferred to wait for the United States to win before offering assistance, in statements released by the State Department on its official X account.

"I am very disappointed with NATO. Very. I believe it is a brand that will never disappear. It will never disappear in my mind," stated Trump, who had previously described NATO as a paper tiger amid the growing tensions arising from the conflict.

The U.S. leader also referred to the stance of the United Kingdom, indicating that London communicated its preference to wait for the outcome before committing militarily, despite having two British aircraft carriers on maximum alert at the beginning of hostilities.

The conflict with Iran has escalated in recent weeks. Trump had issued an ultimatum to Tehran, demanding that they negotiate or reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic maritime route for global oil trade.

Diplomatic negotiations have not progressed. Iran rejected the 15-point peace plan presented by Washington, which has deepened the rift between the two nations and complicated any diplomatic resolution to the conflict.

In this context, the NATO Secretary General is scheduled for a visit to Washington from April 10 to April 12, which is expected to be a crucial meeting to address the tensions between the United States and its European allies amid the crisis.
