The president Donald Trump set a firm deadline for Iran this Monday: they have until 8 PM on Tuesday, April 7, Eastern Time, to reach an agreement, or they will face devastating attacks on their infrastructure.
"They have until tomorrow. I can tell you that they are negotiating, we believe, in good faith. But we give them until tomorrow, at 8 o'clock sharp, Eastern Time. And after that, they will have no bridges. They will have no power plants. The Stone Age. Yes, the Stone Age," Trump declared in a video circulated by the State Department.
The president stated that allied countries are helping to mediate in the conflict because the blockage of the Strait of Hormuz also directly affects them.
This is the fourth ultimatum that Trump has issued since March 21 of 2026, when he gave Iran 48 hours to reopen the Strait under the threat of attacking its energy facilities. On each occasion, the deadline was extended, citing progress in the negotiations.
Last Saturday, Trump posted on his social media that time is running out — 48 hours before all hell breaks loose on them," and on Sunday he hinted that "Tuesday will be Energy Plants Day and Bridge Day" in Iran.
This Monday was even more explicit: "We will fly and completely obliterate their power plants, wells, and Kharg Island," he wrote, referring to the enclave through which 90% of Iranian crude exports pass.
Iran, for its part, formally rejected this Monday the 15-point peace plan presented by Washington, communicating its refusal through Pakistani mediators.
The spokesman for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Esmail Baqaei, described threats against civilian infrastructure as "war crimes" and warned that "negotiation is incompatible with ultimatums or threats".
Tehran presented a counterproposal of ten demands that includes an end to all regional conflicts, a new protocol for the Strait of Hormuz, funds for rebuilding its infrastructure, and the lifting of sanctions.
The conflict is framed within the Epic Fury Operation, a joint military offensive by the United States and Israel launched on February 28, 2026, which has destroyed 90% of Iranian missiles and 95% of Iranian drones, and has eliminated 49 high-ranking military officials, including the supreme leader Ali Khamenei.
The blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, imposed by Iran on March 4 through mines, drones, and missiles, has left about 2,000 ships stranded with roughly 20,000 sailors, has driven the price of Brent crude oil above 115 dollars per barrel, and has raised the price of gasoline in the United States to 4.10 dollars per gallon.
Pakistan presented a 45-day ceasefire proposal to reopen the Strait on Sunday, which Iran also rejected, demanding a permanent end to the war, making Tuesday the most critical date since the conflict began, reported CBS News.
