A 58-year-old Cuban citizen passed away last Thursday in the city of Montevideo, Uruguay, following a collision between two motorcycles, an accident in which his son sustained minor injuries, according to local media reports.
The fatal collision occurred at the intersection of Luis Batlle Berres and Lomas de Zamora, in the Paso de la Arena neighborhood, to the west of the Uruguayan capital. As a result, the Cuban -who was driving one of the motorcycles- died, and his 22-year-old son, who was accompanying him, along with the 19-year-old driver of the other motorcycle, sustained minor injuries.
Until now, neither the deceased victim nor the injured individuals in the traffic accident have been identified.
A video accessed by the news portal Subrayado shows that the two motorcycles were traveling in the same direction on Luis Batlle Berres Avenue. A father and son were on one of the vehicles, and as they were turning left to enter Lomas de Zamora Street, the other motorcycle collided with them from behind while attempting to overtake.
Neighbors, passersby, and a doctor who was on the scene immediately rushed to assist the victim: they applied a tourniquet and took turns performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for about 30 minutes.
According to the testimony of a witness identified as Anthony, the ambulance took half an hour to arrive. "It's crazy... We saw when the accident happened. We rushed to the scene, and luckily a doctor arrived shortly after; she was able to help us. We applied a tourniquet to the man and started CPR. We performed CPR on a Cuban man for half an hour, and unfortunately, he passed away," he recounted.
"I can't believe it took a police officer 20 minutes to arrive and half an hour for an ambulance," he said, adding that after the crash, the victim was "alive for at least 15 to 20 minutes."
In his statements to Subrayado, the witness expressed that "they could have reworked with the man, but because of the delay in the ambulance, that's why things happened as they did," despite the persistent efforts to revive him while they waited for the medical personnel to arrive.
In the live report shared on Facebook by the news site, a woman related to the deceased Cuban is seen crying and screaming in anguish, completely devastated by the loss.
This tragic incident adds to a series of deaths of Cuban citizens in traffic accidents in Uruguay. In December 2025, a 30-year-old Cuban died after crashing his motorcycle into the trailer of a tractor in the department of Canelones.
Two months ago, Abel Luis Vázquez Licea, 25 years old, passed away, and eight other Cubans were injured following a collision between a car and a truck in the same area.
Also, a 19-year-old young woman lost her life due to the injuries sustained in a traffic accident in the South American country.
