The Communist Party of Cuba published a defiant statement on its official account on the social network X this Saturday in response to threats from President Donald Trump, asserting that “there will be no surrender in Cuba” and that on the island “the dignity, sovereignty, independence, and right to self-determination of peoples are being defended.”

The message, which directly quotes Miguel Díaz-Canel, was published under the hashtags #LaPatriaSeDefiende and #CubaNoEstáSola, and was accompanied by images from what appears to be an international solidarity meeting with Cuba, showcasing flags from multiple countries and banners with the slogans "Hands Off Cuba" and "Solidarity Does Not Stop."

The statement directly responds to an escalation of threats from the Trump administration. On Friday, during a private dinner at the Forum Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, Trump threatened to send the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier within 100 meters of the Cuban coast to force the regime's surrender.

In his own words, Trump described the scenario like this: "Upon our return from Iran, we will send one of our aircraft carriers, perhaps the Abraham Lincoln, bring it close, stop it a hundred meters from the shore and they will respond: thank you very much, we surrender."

Trump conditioned that action on first concluding military operations against Iran, named Operation Epic Fury, which began on February 28, 2026.

That same Friday, Trump signed a new executive order that expands sanctions against Cuba, imposing secondary measures on banks and foreign entities involved in sanctioned Cuban transactions and warning about the closure of accounts on Wall Street.

Díaz-Canel responded by accusing the U.S. of "moral poverty" and described the measures as a "brutal genocidal blockade," while Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez labeled them as an "illegal and abusive collective punishment."

" No aggressor, no matter how powerful, will find surrender in Cuba," declared Díaz-Canel, in a stance that the regime also expressed through Chancellor Rodríguez.

The statement comes a day after the May Day parade, held under the slogan "The Homeland is Defended," featuring marches from the Plaza de la Revolución to the Anti-Imperialist Tribune in front of the U.S. Embassy in Havana.

In that event, Díaz-Canel presented the initiative "My Signature for the Homeland", which the regime claims has 6,230,973 signatures from Cubans in rejection of U.S. sanctions.

Since January 2026, the Trump administration has imposed over 240 sanctions against Cuba, re-added the island to the list of state sponsors of terrorism on January 20, and intercepted at least seven oil tankers, cutting off between 80 and 90% of Cuba's energy imports.

The Secretary of State Marco Rubio had warned on April 27 that "Cuba has only two fates: none good", while in March Trump stated to CNN that "Cuba is going to fall pretty soon."
