Rudolph W. Giuliani, better known as Rudy Giuliani, 81 years old, former mayor of New York and close ally of President Donald Trump, was hospitalized this Sunday in a Florida medical center in critical condition, according to his spokesperson Ted Goodman confirmed in an official statement, and reported by journalist Wilfredo Cancio.
The statement did not specify the medical reason that led to the hospitalization nor the name of the hospital where Giuliani is receiving care, although it is known that the former official resided in Palm Beach, Florida.
"Mayor Rudy Giuliani is currently in the hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition," Goodman noted. "Mayor Giuliani is a fighter who has faced every challenge in his life with unwavering strength, and he is fighting with that same level of strength right now. We ask you to join us in prayer for the 'Mayor of the United States': Rudy Giuliani," the source stated.
Last Friday, just two days before his hospital admission, Giuliani broadcast his online show "America's Mayor Live" from Palm Beach, where he was noted to have a hoarse voice and coughed several times, commenting that his voice was "a little out of sorts," Univisión reported.
Trump reacted immediately with a post on Truth Social in which he described Giuliani as "a true warrior and the best mayor in the history of New York City, BY FAR."
The hospitalization comes after a period of severe physical deterioration for Giuliani. In the summer of 2025, he suffered a serious car accident in New Hampshire while assisting a victim of domestic violence: another vehicle struck his car from behind at high speed, causing him to sustain a thoracic vertebral fracture, multiple lacerations, bruises, and injuries to his left arm and leg. Since then, his public appearances have been made in a wheelchair.
The physical decline is added to a long process of legal and financial downfall. Giuliani was provisionally suspended from practicing law in New York in June 2021 for statements deemed defamatory about election officials, and in June 2023 he was permanently disbarred for misconduct in promoting baseless lawsuits following the 2020 elections, various sources report.
The contrast with his past is striking. Giuliani served as the mayor of New York from 1994 to 2001, gaining worldwide fame after the September 11 attacks in that latter year, when he became the face of American resilience. On that day alone, he visited the ruins of the Twin Towers six times and in the following weeks attended more than 200 funerals for victims. Queen Elizabeth II awarded him the Order of the British Empire, and at the height of his popularity, he earned the equivalent of nearly half a million euros for each speaking engagement, as reported by La Vanguardia. in a profile from 2023.
As Trump's personal attorney during his first term, Giuliani led the legal efforts to contest the results of the 2020 election, alleging widespread fraud without any evidence, which resulted in his professional and financial ruin. During Trump's second term, he maintained a much lower profile, although he continued with his online program from Palm Beach.
Regarding the Cuban government, Giuliani stated in 2021 that it is one of the “most inhumane, indecent, and horrible regimes” in history.
