A video posted on TikTok by user @jj_iris_lft has touched the hearts of thousands by capturing the exact moment when a Cuban reunites with his family at an airport on the island, following a period of separation that left a visible mark on everyone present.

The clip, accompanied by the song "Hoy" by Gloria Estefan —whose lyrics say "I have the sea on the other side / You are my north and my south / Today I will see you again"— showcases hugs, tears, and an emotion that overflowed among those present.

The musical choice is not accidental: Estefan is Cuban-American, born in Havana and exiled in Miami, and each verse of the song seems to be written to describe the experience of the Cuban diaspora.

The reactions in the comments section came quickly, with emojis and messages of blessings for this family.

"The old man was in shock for 30 minutes, he couldn't speak. They didn't know it was us who were coming," said the user who shared the video in the description of this reunion.

The phenomenon is neither new nor isolated. The Cuban family reunions at airports have become a recurring viral trend on TikTok during 2025 and 2026, driven by the massive exodus that has left virtually every Cuban family with a member abroad.

In April, a daughter surprised her mother after six years apart in a video that also went viral, while a Spanish woman traveled 17 hours from Barcelona to reunite with her Cuban partner, accumulating over 110,600 views in less than 24 hours.

Behind each of these clips lies a number that explains it all: between 2021 and mid-2024, more than 860,000 Cubans emigrated, in the largest exodus in the history of the island, leaving entire families divided by the sea, the years, and the distance.
