The United States Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, sent greetings and encouragement to the activist Anna Bensi and the members of the collective Fuera de la Caja Cuba through the mission chief of the U.S. Embassy in Havana, who met with these young activists to learn about their hopes for Cuba.

The meeting was documented in a video published by the official account of the US Embassy in Cuba on Facebook, where the diplomat, identified as Mike, explained that he had informed Rubio in advance about the meeting. "On behalf of Washington, I met with Secretary Rubio, I told him we were going to meet, and he sends his regards and encouragement," the official stated.

The head of the mission also reaffirmed Washington's commitment to the freedom of Cubans on the island: "The interest of the United States is that all Cubans, especially those on the ground, can live here in peace and freedom."

The diplomat closed his message with a direct statement of support for the youth: "Know that you always have friends at the United States embassy, here in Cuba, here in Havana."

The Embassy accompanied the publication with the text: "Youth will determine the future of the country," under the hashtags #FreeEl4Tico and #ConCubanosDeAPie.

Fuera de la Caja Cuba is a collective of digital and artistic activism founded in early January 2026 in the Cerro municipality of Havana, made up of four young individuals around twenty years old who use art, theater, and social media videos to promote libertarian ideas and criticize state indoctrination.

Among its identified members are Karel Daniel Hernández Bosques and Amanda Beatriz Andrés Navarro. The group is recognized by their red caps featuring the slogan "Make Cuba Great Again."

Anna Bensi, whose real name is Anna Sofía Benítez Silvente, is a 21-year-old Cuban activist residing in Havana who has shared critical content about the economic situation and the lack of freedoms in Cuba.

Both have been targets of systematic repression by the Cuban regime. State Security has intimidated their families, disabled their phones through ETECSA, and hacked their WhatsApp and Telegram accounts. On April 21, Anna Bensi reported the simultaneous hacking of both platforms and the deactivation of their lines.

Since March 25, Anna Bensi and her mother have been under house arrest, facing charges that could result in sentences of two to five years in prison.

On April 26, Karel Daniel published a video reporting that State Security summoned his mother and warned that if the youth continued producing critical videos, they would "end up in prison".

The meeting with the Embassy is part of an active policy by the Trump administration to engage with Cuban civil society, which has also included the case of the teenager Jonathan David Muir Burgos, 16 years old, who has been imprisoned since March 16 at the Canaleta prison on charges of sabotage following protests in Morón, Ciego de Ávila, and for whom the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights granted precautionary measures on April 24.

Rubio described the Cuban regime as a "failed state" ruled by communists on May 5 during a press conference at the White House.
