The authorities in Chiapas executed an arrest warrant against Alfredo "N," a Cuban citizen accused of attempting to kill a man whom he wounded with a knife and threatened with death in Palenque, in southeastern Mexico.
According to a statement from the Attorney General's Office of Chiapas, agents from the Attorney General's Office and the People's Security Secretariat arrested Alfredo "N" as the alleged perpetrator of attempted qualified homicide, to the detriment of Bartolo "N". The events took place on May 18 in that Chiapas city.
The victim reported to the authorities that she was beaten and attacked with a knife by the accused, who also threatened to kill her before fleeing the scene.
The crime of attempted qualified homicide implies that the perpetrator acted with the intention to kill without actually carrying out the crime. This classification increases the potential sentence due to circumstances such as premeditation, advantage, or treachery.
After his capture, Alfredo "N" was brought before the jurisdictional authority based in Playas de Catazajá, a municipality near Palenque with territorial competence to handle cases from that region.
The Prosecutor's Office framed the arrest within its "Zero Impunity" policy and stated that "with decisive actions against those who perpetrate violence, we seek the peace and security of the people."
Palenque has become a strategic point on the migration route that connects the southern border of Mexico with the north of the country and the United States. The area has a high presence of Cuban migrants who are either in transit or waiting to regularize their immigration status, many of whom are undocumented.
Now the Playas de Catazajá court will be responsible for defining the legal situation of Alfredo "N" and determining whether he will face formal charges for attempted homicide.
