Two separate incidents involving Cuban citizens occurred recently in the municipality of Palenque, Chiapas, Mexico: one was found beaten and abandoned on a rural road, while the other was arrested for attacking the owner of a seafood restaurant with a knife.

The first case was reported by Diario de Chiapas and concerns Erick Dallan López Azan, 30 years old, who was found injured on the dirt road leading to the El Porvenir ejido, one kilometer from the entrance to that ejido.

The victim showed various lacerations, bruises on different parts of the body, and deformity in the fingers of the left hand.

Civil Protection paramedics provided pre-hospital care and transported him to the General Hospital of Palenque for specialized medical attention.

Authorities are investigating the incident as a suspected robbery, although no details about potential suspects have been released so far.

The second incident occurred on Monday, May 18, at the seafood restaurant "Vay Ven," located next to the parking lot of the Chedraui store in the northwest area of Palenque.

According to local media, the owner of the establishment was stabbed around 15 times by a man of alleged Cuban descent, unofficially identified as "Alfredo N".

Neighbors who heard the screams alerted emergency services, and paramedics from the Mexican Red Cross transported the injured person to the General Hospital of Palenque, where their condition was reported as serious.

The Municipal Police arrested the aggressor at the scene and reported him to the Public Ministry "for injuries and whatever may result," according to the page Noticieros Palenque News Mx.

The detainee claimed that "he was being held by the victim and that he was only defending himself, causing several injuries," according to reports gathered by local media.

Other sources indicated that the altercation may have been motivated by "emotional issues with a former employee and owner of the business, a situation that would have triggered the attack with the sharp weapon."

Both events occur in a context of increasing vulnerability for Cuban migrants in Chiapas, a state that is part of the migration route through southeastern Mexico.

Parenque is identified by the United Nations as a key node of that corridor, along with Villahermosa and Acayucan, and in recent months it has been the scene of multiple episodes of violence affecting the migrant community.

The Cuban deportees by ICE who were stranded in Chiapas without money or documents in November 2025 illustrate the structural precariousness that drives many migrants into extreme risk situations in this area of the country.
