ECASA published on its Telegram channel, at the beginning of May, the list of airlines with active flights to Cuba, a situation that already shows recent declines and anticipates new absences in the coming months.
According to this information, a total of 26 airlines and charter flight operators are maintaining active routes to the island this month, although the actual number is lower following the departure of World2Fly, which completed its last flight from Madrid to Havana on May 20, closing the only route it had to Cuba.
The airline of the Iberostar hotel group announced the suspension along with the agency Onlinetours, its main distributor in Cuba: "World2Fly informs that it is suspending its operations on the Madrid–Havana–Madrid route; the last flight will operate on May 20."
Among the airlines operating in May are American Airlines, which offers the largest coverage in the country: flights to Havana, Varadero, Santa Clara, Camagüey, Santiago de Cuba, and Holguín. Charter flights from the United States to five Cuban airports are also available.
Other active companies include Copa Airlines, Viva Aerobus, Aeroméxico, Southwest, Delta, Air Europa, Iberia, Air China, Neos, Sky High, Fly All Ways, Inter Caribbean, Aruba Airlines, Rutaca, Bahamas Air, Caribbean Airlines, Wingo, Cayman Airways, TAAG Angolana, Conviasa, and Air Century. Cubana de Aviación appears on the list, although it operates only flights to Santiago de Cuba and Gerona, with no active international routes.
The airport with the most connectivity is José Martí in Havana, which serves the vast majority of airlines. It is followed by Antonio Maceo in Santiago de Cuba and Ignacio Agramonte in Camagüey.
Iberia, which still appears on the May list, announced in April the suspension of its direct flights from Madrid to Havana starting in June, with the last flight scheduled for May 31. The company anticipates resuming the route in November if conditions allow and offers an alternative of flying to Cuba via Panama through its agreement with Copa Airlines.
After the departure of World2Fly and Iberia, Air Europa will remain the only Spanish airline with operational flights to Cuba, offering three weekly flights — Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays — on the Madrid–Havana route.
The context is a unprecedented air crisis that has resulted in over 1,700 flights canceled to Cuba so far in 2026, triggered by a shortage of Jet A-1 fuel at nine Cuban international airports. At least 11 airlines have suspended their routes this year, including Air Canada, Air France, and Turkish Airlines.
The impact on tourism is severe: in January and April 2026, Cuba received 457,716 fewer visitors than in the same period of 2025, and hotel occupancy dropped by almost 20%.
In contrast, the Italian airline Neos will connect Rome with Holguín starting June 29, with a weekly frequency on Tuesdays, according to the company itself.
