A Cuban mother reported this Wednesday the desecration of her daughter's grave in the Municipal Cemetery of Encrucijada, located in the Villa Clara municipality, in an act that is shocking.

Laura Daikelin Rodriguez Pacin posted on Facebook that unknown individuals tore down the stuffed animals, toys, and decorative items that she lovingly placed on her daughter’s grave, Yeily de la Caridad Crespo Rodríguez, and also vandalized the burial site.

«Hoy recibí una de las noticias más dolorosas, desgarradoras e indignantes que una madre puede recibir: profanaron la tumba de mi hija Yeily de la Caridad Crespo Rodríguez. Le arrancaron sus peluches, sus juguetes y cada detalle que con tanto amor yo le llevaba», escribió la madre.

Rodriguez described the impact of finding the destroyed grave with words that moved those who read them: "When I arrived and saw her broken, empty grave without her toys, I felt as if my daughter was being ripped from my arms for the second time."

The mother pointed out that, although her daughter's remains were untouched —unlike what happened with other graves in the same cemetery— the emotional damage is irreparable.

"My daughter can no longer defend herself. She cannot speak, she cannot point out those who touched her things. And that is what breaks me the most inside: they didn’t even let her rest in peace."

In her post, she demanded that the authorities take action: "I demand justice. I demand that the authorities do their job and find those responsible for this despicable and inhumane act."

Neighbors' comments from Encrucijada pointed directly to the local government and the state enterprise Comunales as indirect culprits for the incident, due to having removed the guards who were securing the cemetery.

"Comunales and this government of Encrucijada are largely to blame for removing the guards from the cemeteries, a sacred place of respect for us and our loved ones, but God is great, and whoever committed this vandalism will pay," wrote a neighbor in the post.

Another resident of the municipality expressed her solidarity with the mother: “Today your outrage and pain are mine and those of all the mothers from Encrucijada, and have faith that those who committed such an inhumane act will pay for it. May your little princess rest in peace.”

The case is not isolated.

In recent weeks, there have been reports of looting of funeral items in cemeteries in Pinar del Río, and in February, the state of desecration and neglect of the municipal cemetery of Mayabe in Holguín was documented, with broken niches and exposed bone remains.

Similarly, in January, the family of Paulito FG reported vandalism at his grave in the Colón Cemetery in Havana, and in other municipalities such as Artemisa and Los Arabos, there have been reports of graves being opened and the theft of remains or funeral objects.

The pattern reflects the collapse of public services under the Cuban dictatorship, which has left areas that families consider sacred unmonitored.

Rodríguez concluded his complaint with a direct message to those responsible: "You may hide for a time, but everything in this life has a cost. You will not escape the justice of God and man."
