The US dollar opened this Thursday with a new record price as it is currently trading at 568 Cuban pesos (CUP) in the informal currency market in Cuba, according to the daily report from elTOQUE.

The American dollar rose three pesos compared to the previous day, when it was selling at 565 CUP. This increase confirms the ongoing pressure on the Cuban peso and the high demand for dollars amidst the economic crisis, political issues, and inflation.

The euro also recorded an increase in its value, reaching a new high of 645 CUP. The European currency gained five pesos compared to the previous day, when it was trading at 640 CUP.

The behavior reflects the instability of the informal exchange market and the population's search for strong currencies to cope with the changes that could soon arrive in the country.

Exchange Rate Evolution

On its part, the Freely Convertible Currency (MLC) dropped to 410 CUP, twenty pesos less than yesterday, when it was at 430 CUP. The significant decrease highlights the loss of interest and confidence in this currency within the Cuban informal market, despite its continued use.
