A young Cuban woman living in the United States became the star of one of the most talked-about TikTok videos of the week after posting a clip of herself walking in black heels along a muddy rural path in Cuba, stumbling and nearly falling to the ground while a friend narrates the situation amidst laughter.
The 42-second video posted by @katherine.rodrigu94 shows Katherine M. Rod struggling to walk along a wet path surrounded by vegetation, wooden posts with wire, and other people in the background. The young woman wears a one-shoulder black top, white shorts with black polka dots in a pin-up style, black strappy heels, and carries a black handbag, with a visible tattoo on her back.
As she walks, she twists her ankle several times, and at one point, she falls to her knees after slipping. The friend who is recording can't help but laugh and narrates in real time: "Girl, walk. She already fell to her knees because the problem was that she had a little slip. But let's observe for a moment."
At the end of the clip, when the young woman stumbles again, the narrator exclaims, "A little gentleman just turned over a coin."
What turned the video into something more than just a funny anecdote was the text that Katherine posted alongside an image of her walking away, down that same green and humid path: “Every drop of mud on this Earth that gave me Life and so much happiness is worth it”, accompanied by the Cuban flag and a red heart.
The phrase captures the spirit of the moment: a Cuban from the diaspora returns to her island, puts on her best heels to walk through the countryside, and instead of lamenting the mud, she celebrates it as part of what she loves about her homeland.
The hashtags of the video —#cubanosporelmundo, #cubanosenusa, #cuba— confirm that the author resides outside of Cuba and made a visit to the island, a common pattern among Cubans abroad who document their reunions with their homeland.
This type of content connects directly with other Cubans abroad who recognize the landscapes, everyday situations, and the island's sense of humor. A Cuban woman who returned to her neighborhood in Cienfuegos generated a similar reaction in January, and in June 2025, a Cuban mother who returned from the United States to see her family also went viral with a mix of emotion and humor.
Katherine's video has accumulated nearly 24,900 views, 564 likes, 117 comments, and 45 shares, figures that reflect the resonance it had within the Cuban community on social media.
The description she chose to accompany the clip says it all: "It's worth it."
