Four Cuban citizens will be prosecuted by Mexican authorities after the Attorney General presented evidence accusing them of drug dealing for the distribution of marijuana in Cancun, in the state of Quintana Roo, authorities announced this Sunday.

A control judge issued a ruling to formally charge the Cubans identified as Osiel «N», Enrique «N», Rubén «N», and Luis «N», after the State Attorney General's Office, through the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Combating Drug Trafficking, presented evidence during the hearing of their "alleged involvement in acts that constitute crimes against public health in the form of drug trafficking" in the municipality of Benito Juárez.

The official statement indicates that the four Cubans were arrested for incidents that occurred in superblock 23 of Cancun and will remain in preventive detention as a precautionary measure for the duration of their criminal proceedings.

The case of the Cubans was one of 10 referrals for prosecution obtained in separate hearings in the municipality of Benito Juárez.

Six other individuals were also charged with offenses against health, for simple possession or supply of drugs such as marijuana, cocaine, and methamphetamine, as well as drug dealing for supply purposes. Four of them will remain in preventive detention.

The case of the Cubans adds to a series of arrests of citizens from the island in Quintana Roo and other Mexican states for drug trafficking. In early May, another Cuban was charged in Cancún for selling narcotics in the Las Palapas area, in the city center.

In April, Julio Yidier, known as "El Tilín," was captured in Mexico City as the alleged leader of a cell that was hiding drugs in modified vehicles, during an operation in which two kilograms of crystal, doses of marijuana and cocaine, firearms, and cash were seized.

That same month, Yoexy Vila Hernández was arrested in Cancún with an active warrant in Tampa, Florida, for conspiracy to distribute controlled substances.

In January of this year, a Cuban identified as Remigio "N" was detained in the same city, pointed out as a key figure in an international criminal network with connections in the United States and Mexico.

The FGE in Quintana Roo reminded that, in accordance with Article 13 of the National Code of Criminal Procedure, the accused "are presumed innocent unless their responsibility is declared by a judicial authority."

Since 2023, there has been a growing pattern of arrests of Cubans in Mexico for health-related crimes, ranging from street-level drug dealing to more complex distribution networks, with documented cases in Quintana Roo, Hidalgo, Tabasco, and Mexico City.
