The Attorney General's Office of the State of Quintana Roo detained two Cuban citizens identified as Alexander «N» and Andys Luis «N», accused of the crimes of injury and threats against an elderly woman and her son in the Villas Morelos neighborhood, in the municipality of Puerto Morelos, according to the official statement from the Attorney General's Office.
The Attorney General Raciel López Salazar announced the arrests during the press conference of the Security Table, after obtaining the corresponding arrest warrant from a Control Judge.

The events took place on May 25, when the victim was arriving at her home and was intercepted by Alexander "N", with whom she had been experiencing a neighborhood conflict for some time: the Cuban lived next to her house and had built a fence without respecting the property boundaries of the aggrieved party.
According to the complaint, Alexander "N" struck the woman in the head with his fist, between the forehead and the eye, causing her to bleed.
When her son tried to help her, he was also attacked by Alexander "N" and his companion Andys Luis "N", after which both Cubans left the scene.
The case quickly gained public attention after users shared a video of the assault on social media, prompting a community call to gather outside the aggressor's home with the aim of "lynching" him.
The timely intervention of the authorities prevented the protest from escalating before the complaint was formally lodged and the arrest warrant was executed.
Both individuals under investigation were presented before the judicial authority, and within the constitutional timeframe, a judge will determine their legal status.
This case adds to other recent incidents in Quintana Roo involving Cuban citizens that have received extensive media coverage in the region.

On May 26, another Cuban was arrested in Cancún for alleged theft at a notary office.
Between May 28 and 29, a Cuban couple was placed under migration protection by the National Migration Institute following disturbances in Supermanzana 23 of Cancún.

Quintana Roo is one of the states in Mexico with a significant presence of Cuban migrants: the 2020 census recorded 4,494 individuals born in Cuba, primarily concentrated in tourist municipalities such as Cancún, Playa del Carmen, and Puerto Morelos.
