Marco Rubio starred in one of the week's most viral moments in the United States Congress on Wednesday when a Democratic congresswoman shouted at him during a hearing and abruptly left the room before he could respond: the Secretary of State bid her farewell with an irony that set social media ablaze.

The incident occurred during the budget hearings for the Department of State for the fiscal year 2027, marking Rubio's first public appearances before Congress since the onset of the U.S. war against Iran, which turned the session into a high-stakes political arena.

Democratic Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove shouted at the secretary after questioning his work for several minutes, then stood up and left the room without giving him a chance to respond. Rubio reacted strongly in front of the assembly: "Why is she leaving? I'm going to answer your questions! Well... THANK YOU FOR COMING!"

Seconds earlier, she had already protested the format of the hearing, which prevented her from responding to the questions from the Democratic lawmakers: “Can she shout now too? Mr. Chairman, can you take back your words? This is not a hearing, it’s like a dunk tank. How can I answer the questions if I’m not given time?” she denounced.

The clip immediately became a trend on social media, where thousands of users celebrated the response of the Secretary of State.

The comments described Rubio as a "tough" politician who does not get intimidated, and phrases like "Marco just keeps winning" were repeated in several posts.

The Cuban-American Republican congresswoman María Elvira Salazar, representative of Miami, also participated in the same session and took the opportunity to praise Rubio in front of her colleagues: “In my community, the city I represent, the city of Miami, you are one of the most esteemed representatives, and we are very proud of you, not only the Cuban-Americans but also the Hispanic-Americans of my community.”

Salazar has had her own confrontations with Democratic legislators in recent hearings, establishing herself as one of the most combative voices of the Cuban-American Republican bloc in Congress.

The hearings on Wednesday were also interrupted by protesters shouting slogans against the war in Iran, who were removed by Capitol Police, while several Democrats accused the Trump administration of waging what they described as an "illegal war."

In May, more than 30 Democratic congressmen sent a letter to Rubio urging the dismissal of any military action against Cuba and rejecting the use of Guantanamo for Cuban migrants, highlighting the level of confrontation between the two blocs regarding foreign policy.

The video of the encounter, published by journalist Eric Daugherty on X, amassed over 464,000 views and nearly 8,800 reactions in just a few hours, with Daugherty himself summarizing the feelings of many followers: "We love Marco."
