The Cuban reggaeton artist Yakarta, whose real name is Luis Javier Prieto Cedeño, was arrested on Wednesday in Miami-Dade and transferred to the Turner Guilford Knight (TGK) detention center, according to public records from the county's correctional department.

The detention record, with case number F26012494, indicates that the artist was booked on June 24 at 8:52 p.m. (local time) and is facing three charges: third-degree vehicle theft, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to use.

The associated bonds total $5,500: $2,500 for the stolen vehicle, another $2,500 for possession of a controlled substance, and $500 for the paraphernalia.

The record also includes the note “out on felony bond”, related to a previous legal case (Warrant Case #F26002109), which indicates that Yakarta was already out on bail for a felony at the time of this new arrest.

At the time of this report, the bail had not been paid and the artist remains in custody.

This is at least the fifth known legal case involving the singer in the state of Florida.

In March 2024, he was arrested in Miami-Dade on charges of fraudulent possession of five or more identities, third-degree theft, and burglary.

In April 2023, he faced charges for burglary of an unoccupied property.

Previously, in August 2021 he was arrested in Hialeah for stealing a package from in front of a residence, a crime he confessed to the authorities.

After being released from his detention in March 2024, Yakarta had posted on Instagram: “If I start to think about the time I lost, I'm losing it again”.

The current arrest contrasts with the message of overcoming that the artist himself had publicly conveyed just 15 months ago.

During an interview with our outlet in March 2025, he spoke openly about his detoxification process, after three years away from music due to drug addiction issues.

In that instance, he admitted: “Drugs do nothing but take you away from the things you want; they only bring certain death, a hospital, or a cemetery.”

In that same interview, Yakarta credited his return to music to the death of his colleague El Taiger in October 2024.

He also mentioned a possible joint tour with El Chacal (Ramón Lavado), with whom he released the song "Sin freno y pa' la luna" on April 23, just two months before this new arrest.

As of the publication of this note, neither the artist, nor their management team, nor family members have issued a public statement regarding this new arrest.
