The Cuban influencer Anna Bensi posted a reel on Instagram this Friday that forcefully challenges the narrative of those defending communism from the comfort of capitalism, and she does so from a position that no library theorist can claim: more than 20 years living under a dictatorship and, since March 25, under house arrest for posting critical videos about the regime.
The video, which lasts almost two minutes, is aimed at those who proclaim their rejection of capitalism while enjoying it without restraint.
"Says he's anti-capitalist with a Coca-Cola in one hand and an iPhone in the other," Bensi throws out with irony before delving into the argument.
"But how can you come and tell me that I am wrong when I have been living in a communist dictatorship for more than 20 years and you have never stepped out of the air conditioning to work for a salary that doesn't even cover the cost of a carton of eggs?" asks the 21-year-old Havana native, whose real name is Ana Sofía Benítez Silvente.
Bensi does not stop at personal anecdotes. He describes the system with precision: "In a communist dictatorship, the last thing that matters is the people, where ordinary people have no quality of life, no future, and no dignity."
His definition of real communism is striking: "It is to think differently and to become one of the more than a thousand political prisoners that Cuba has today." A figure that, according to Prisoners Defenders, reached an absolute record of 1,281 political prisoners in May 2026.
The video takes on a particular weight due to the setting in which it was recorded. Bensi speaks from the house arrest that he shares with his mother, Caridad Silvente, both accused of "acts against personal and family intimacy" for having filmed a MININT agent delivering a citation at their home. The penalty they face ranges from two to five years in prison.
That pressure has not silenced the creator, who is part of the collective «Fuera de la Caja Cuba», founded in January 2026 to promote libertarian thought through art and social media.
Each of his posts is, in practice, an act of resistance with real legal consequences.
The backdrop of the video is provided by the case of El 4tico, an independent audiovisual project from Holguín.
Its members Ernesto Ricardo Medina and Kamil Zayas Pérez were arrested on February 6, 2026 for publishing content critical of the regime, facing charges of "propaganda against the constitutional order" and "instigation to commit a crime," which can result in up to nine years in prison.
His equipment was confiscated and, from jail, Medina refused to record a "repentance" video.
Bensi also dismantles the hypocrisy of the leadership that administers that system: "The communist dictators whose speeches you applaud are the most capitalist people on the planet. They are not interested in eradicating poverty; they multiply it to maintain their grip on power."
The closing of the reel summarizes everything in a phrase that leaves no room for argument from theory: "You’re not going to convince me, I don’t read communism, I live it, I suffer from it. The reality is that communism has never worked and never will."
In May 2026, the special envoy from the United States to Cuba, Mike Hammer, met with Bensi and the collective "Fuera de la Caja Cuba" and conveyed greetings from Secretary of State Marco Rubio, in a gesture that underscored the international recognition of their resilience.
