A young Cuban resident in Miami reported on TikTok the disrespectful treatment she received from an employee at a jewelry store in the city, in a video that garnered over 78,000 views and generated hundreds of comments from users with similar experiences.
The content creator @klaubarbie posted the clip on June 22 as "part 1" of a series, describing how the sales clerk at a place recommended to her as "super trendy" in Miami received her while chewing gum, displaying an indifferent attitude and using phrases like "what are you here for?" as if serving customers were a burden.
“She was all like, 'What are you here to look for? What are you here to look for?'” the young woman recounted, imitating the employee's tone. “It was as if she thought, 'This is my business, I’m tired of attending to you,' like she was the boss of the place.”
KlauBarbie clarified that she doesn't mind someone chewing gum while working, but rather the overall attitude that accompanied the service. "You wouldn't see that in a high-end boutique," she pointed out, emphasizing that the problem wasn't an isolated detail but the employee's entire behavior.
The creator also directly questioned the owners of these businesses: "The owners of the jewelry store really do not see these attitudes. I don’t know when they're going to hire them; if they don’t do those things, then they don’t hire them." With this reflection, she pointed to a potential flaw in the hiring processes.
Although she acknowledged that the employee might have had "a bad day," KlauBarbie concluded that such signs are enough to leave without making a purchase: "When I see those attitudes, I should just start to leave, because from there on, I already know what’s coming."
The video adds to a sustained trend on TikTok since 2024, where Cubans residing in Miami are denouncing the poor service they receive in businesses across the city, often run by fellow countrymen. In August 2025, another Cuban had expressed her frustration with similar phrases: "Wherever you go, there's mistreatment, a lack of respect, and a lack of class."
This debate has also addressed the issue of the lack of empathy between established Cuban emigrants and newcomers. In March 2026, a Cuban woman reported that some established compatriots consider themselves superior and look down on those who have just arrived in the United States.
The Cuban influencer Sachy Sánchez also had a similar episode in May 2026, when she described a tense experience with a Cuban Uber driver in Hialeah that nearly caused her to exit the vehicle.
Many users attribute these attitudes to customs carried over from Cuba, where customer service has historically been poor due to the conditions of the state-run economic system. KlauBarbie announced that there is more to share on the topic, so her audience is anticipating a second part of the story.
