Two children, aged four and six, who had left their home without anyone knowing their whereabouts were found alive this Monday in the town of Mabay, located in the municipality of Bayamo, Granma province, after hours of searching that kept the entire community on edge.
The minors disappeared in the locality of Batey del Medio, a rural area characterized by extensive sugarcane fields associated with the local sugar industry.
As soon as the disappearance was reported, authorities launched a search operation that involved police, firefighters, and fighters from the Special Brigade of the Ministry of Interior (MININT), along with a tracking dog, reported Lipsi Lianet Batista.
The teams combed through areas of dense vegetation and waterways in the locality for hours until the children appeared within a sugarcane field in the area.
The reunion of the children with their families, according to the social media post, "brought tears of relief not only to their loved ones but to each of the firefighters, police officers, and neighbors who never lost hope."
The author of the publication took advantage of the positive outcome to urge Cuban families: "Parents, grandparents, and guardians, let’s not lose sight of our children for a single second," warning that the summer vacation months, with children having more free time and greater mobility, increase the risk of their natural curiosity leading them into dangerous situations.
The case adds to a series of disappearances of minors reported in eastern Cuba in recent months.
In April, a boy reported missing in Bayamo was found dead without any official statement from the authorities regarding the case.
That same month, a two-year-old boy disappeared in Guantánamo and was found alive days later, while a 12-year-old boy went missing in Santiago de Cuba on the 17th of that month and was also found safe.
