Yory Gómez, a Cuban actress and partner of musician Osamu Menéndez, posted a heartbreaking message on Facebook this Friday to bid farewell to Mauro, Osamu's eldest son, who passed away on Thursday night in Barbados at the age of 30.
The text, accompanied by a photograph in which Mauro hugs his younger brother Oliver while they both smile playing with a Nintendo Switch, reflects the depth of the bond that connected Yory with the young man, whom he considered like his own son.
"What do I do with so much pain? How do I explain to Oliver that you won't come back, that there won't be one of your sincere, tight hugs, that you won't open your arms to hold him? How do I explain that his older brother is no longer here? God, why did you do this to us? We don’t deserve it," Yory wrote in his post.
Oliver, who is about ten years old, is the son that Yory shares with Osamu. Mauro, on the other hand, was the result of the musician's relationship with the Cuban actress Aylín Mujica, but he had built a close emotional bond with the entire paternal family.
In his message, Yory recalled the everyday gestures that made that relationship special: "Mau, you know that for me you were like another son, and I will remember your explosive smile, I will hold on to that sweetness in your gaze, I will remember that YORY, HOW DELICIOUS THIS FOOD TURNED OUT."
Osamu himself had confirmed the death of his son just a few hours earlier with an equally devastating message: "Forgive me, I can't talk, my son Mauro passed away last night, and I am shattered. I am on the plane to retrieve his body. I love you all and appreciate your messages of condolence."
According to the passing of Mauro Menéndez, son of Aylín Mujica and Osamu, the young man had traveled to the Caribbean island to attend a baseball game, despite suffering from pneumonia and his mother having warned him not to make the trip.
The official cause of death has not been confirmed by the family, although multiple sources indicate a heart attack.
Mauro was artistically known as DJ MAAHEZ and had built a career as a producer and DJ of electronic music since 2014, with collaborations alongside artists such as Wisin, Gente de Zona, and Chyno Miranda.
He was considered a pioneer of the Global Bass and Moombahton movement in the Latin scene, and his professional profile presented him as a multi-platinum producer and a Latin Grammy nominee.
Áylín Mujica, her mother, received the news while she was in Colombia filming the show Top Chef VIP.
Mauro was the firstborn of his three children; the other two are Alejandro, from his relationship with Alejandro Gaviria, and Violeta Valenzuela, from his connection with Gabriel Valenzuela.
Yory closed his post with a phrase that captures the weight of a loss that finds no words: "How can we go on knowing that you're not here? Too much pain."
