The Cuban actress Aylín Mujica posted a heart-wrenching message on Instagram this Saturday to bid farewell to her eldest son, Mauro Menéndez, the young DJ and music producer who passed away on July 16 in Barbados at the age of 30.
Mujica remained silent for about two days before publicly sharing his grief. He was in Bogotá, Colombia, filming the culinary reality show Top Chef VIP from Telemundo when he received the sad news.
«My heart is broken by the departure of my son Mauro. A being full of light, love, joy, and immense kindness, who left an indelible mark on all of us who had the privilege of knowing him,» the actress wrote alongside photographs of Mauro and her family.
In the same text, Mujica acknowledged the magnitude of the blow he faces: "His absence leaves an indescribable void. Learning to live with this pain will be the greatest challenge of my entire life."
She closed her message with heartfelt words for her son: "Fly high, my love, we will miss you so much, but I trust that God has you in a wonderful place. All I ask is that you send me strength to endure such pain. I love you with my life, my dear Mau."
In addition to the publication, the actress shared a video on her Instagram stories that she described as Mauro's "final minutes of life," showing him on a beach in Barbados.
According to news reports, Mujica received a video call from his son while he was on his way to the hospital, and he was able to see on the screen how he was being attended to after suffering a first heart attack.
Mauro had traveled to Barbados, despite suffering from pneumonia and his mother asking him not to make the trip. The official cause of his death has not been confirmed, although journalistic sources suggest a heart attack as a complication of that illness.
Known artistically as DJ Maahez, Mauro has built an international career in electronic music since 2014, being a pioneer of the Global Bass and Moombahton movement.
He collaborated with artists such as Diplo, DJ Snake, Tiësto, Afrojack, and Steve Aoki, surpassed 20 million digital streams, and was nominated for the 2020 Latin Grammy as co-producer of the album 1 Of 1 by Panamanian singer Sech.
The production of Top Chef VIP cancelled filming for several days following the news of the passing. Telemundo publicly expressed their condolences in the actress's own post: "The entire Telemundo family is with you, Aylín. We send you much strength, love, and our deepest condolences."
The Cuban musician Osamu Menéndez, father of Mauro, confirmed the death on Facebook on July 17 with a message that reflected his state of shock: "Forgive me, I cannot speak, my son Mauro died last night and I am devastated. I am on the plane to retrieve his body."
The loss of Mauro marks the second devastating blow for Osamu in less than four months. In March 2026, the musician had already said goodbye to Diana Díaz Olivera, the mother of his daughter Adri, who passed away after a serious illness.
The Cuban singer and actress Yoraisy Gómez, wife of Osamu and stepmother to Mauro, also expressed her sorrow in a heartbreaking audio posted on Instagram, where she asked: "How do I explain to Oliver that you won't be coming back?".
