The Cuban singer and guitarist Osamu Menéndez announced the passing of Diana Díaz Olivera, mother of his daughter Adri Menéndez Díaz, with an this Friday.
our daughter wherever you are. Rest in peace. You were a great mother," wrote the musician in his post, accompanied by several photographs depicting Diana at various moments in her life.
Among the images shared by Osamu is a photo of Diana embracing her daughter Adri, a youthful photograph with the characteristic aesthetic of the eighties, and a collage that shows the woman before and after losing her hair, suggesting that she fought a battle against a serious illness, possibly cancer with chemotherapy treatment, before passing away.
Adri Menéndez Díaz, approximately 23 years old, lived in Mexico with his mother and carries that name in tribute to his paternal grandmother, the Cuban actress Adria Santana, who passed away in September 2011.
Osamu's relationship with Diana Díaz Olivera was the least public of his romantic connections, being far removed from the media spotlight that surrounded other stages of his personal life.
Osamu Menéndez, born in Havana in 1969 and currently residing in Miami, is a recognized figure in Cuban rock with a career that began in 1992 with the group Havana, and comes from a family with a long tradition of artists.
His father is the guitarist Pablo Menéndez from Grupo Mezcla, and his grandmother was the American folk singer Bárbara Dane, who passed away in 2024.
The musician has three children from different relationships: Mauro, the result of his relationship with actress Aylín Mujica, who is now a DJ and music producer with Grammy nominations; Adri, his daughter with Diana Díaz Olivera; and Oliver, the youngest, born from his marriage to Cuban actress and singer Yoraissy "Yory" Gómez, whom he married in 2008.
In 2021, Osamu and Yory Gómez released a new version of "Otro amanecer," dedicated to Cuban emigrants, and in 2018, the musician launched the album "Paz, Amor y Rock and Roll."
